thryve’s contribution to the Wakkerstroom Music Festival

Wakkerstroom – which is the sixth-oldest town that was established in what was then known as the Transvaal – is well known for its birdlife and peaceful surroundings. In recent times, towards the end of March each year, Wakkerstroom has played host to the Wakkerstroom Music Festival. For the past three years, thryve was proud to play a significant, behind-the-scenes part in it, ramping it up in 2017.

A feast of classical music

The Wakkerstroom Music Festival is a non-profit organisation as well as a public benefit organisation. Centred around classical music and the performing arts, the festival aims to promote said arts in rural communities as well as raise funds for a biennial bursary competition.

Held over the second-last weekend in March 2017, the festival showcased a variety of classical performing arts ranging from ballet performances by the Youth Dance Company of Tshwane (YDCT) to stellar presentations with Jetty de Vries on the organ and Human Coetzee on the cello as well as the critically acclaimed Agathe String Sextet.

Wakkerstroom Music Festival becomes automated

In the previous seven years of its existence, ticket sales at the Wakkerstroom Music Festival have been largely manual with interested festival-goers needing to contact the ticket office in order to purchase tickets. A booking form had to be downloaded, the customer would tick off the performances they wanted to attend, and the completed form would be sent off to the ticket office. Payment would either need to be made in person or via electronic funds transfer (EFT). thryve’s Event Booking System managed the bookings and printing of tickets internally.

This year, the Event Booking System was significantly upgraded to further automate the ticket booking process. Now festival-goers were able to purchase tickets online using their credit card. Through the online profile that they created they were also able to rate the performances and opt in to future newsletters from Wakkerstroom Music Festival, thus providing an additional marketing channel for future performances in the festival.

The volunteers who dedicate their time to making the Wakkerstroom Music Festival a success each year give up their time to make this a reality. thryve is proud to say we have made their jobs a bit easier.
